Privacy notice

What we collect

• Your name, email address and telephone number.
• Your booking details: preferred dates, hire length, any extras, collection or delivery choice, and anything you write in the message box.
• Your delivery area and address, if you ask us to deliver or collect the machine.
• A record of the version of our hire terms you confirmed you had read when enquiring and, if you go ahead, the version you accepted and when.
• For confirmed hires: the hire dates, whether payment has been received, whether the machine has been returned, and what happened to the deposit.
• Messages you send us by email, WhatsApp or phone.

We don't take card payments, so we never see card details. If you pay by bank transfer, we see the payment details our bank shows us.

Why we use it

Only to respond to your enquiry, arrange and manage your hire (availability, confirmation, delivery or collection, handover, payment and returning your deposit), keep in touch with you about it, and keep the business records we need. In legal terms, we use it to take steps you've asked for before a hire, to carry out the hire, and to meet our legal and record-keeping obligations.

Where it is stored and processed

• Our booking system. This website runs on Cloudflare. Enquiries and booking records are stored in a Cloudflare database, which keeps short-term automatic backups. Only Sparkle Carpets can access them (Amanda, and Barry, who helps run the service), through a sign-in-protected admin page and the account that runs the website. Cloudflare may process data on servers outside the Isle of Man.
• Email. When you send an enquiry, the details are emailed to us and you receive an acknowledgement. These emails, and any we exchange with you, pass through and are kept on our own mail server and in our mailbox.
• WhatsApp. If you message us on WhatsApp, that conversation is also covered by WhatsApp's own privacy terms.
• Visiting the website. Cloudflare handles your connection (including your IP address) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The site's fonts load from Google Fonts, so your IP address is also sent to Google. If we turn on Cloudflare's Turnstile spam check, it runs only on the enquiry form. The public website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. A sign-in cookie is used only on the private admin page, by the people who run Sparkle Carpets.

What we don't do

We don't sell your information, we don't share it with anyone except as described above or where the law requires it, and we don't use it for unsolicited marketing.

How long we keep it

We keep your information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose we collected it for. Enquiries that don't lead to a hire are deleted once they're no longer needed. Records of hires are kept for as long as we need them to run the business and meet our legal and record-keeping obligations, such as accounting and tax, and are then deleted.

Your rights

Under Isle of Man data protection law you can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. To ask about any of this, email [email protected]. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Isle of Man Information Commissioner.
